Janko, nicknamed Jimmy, has to leave his temporary employment as a seasoner, together with his girl-friend, Lilica. Without a job, he starts on an uncertain path through life. His mother, a poor laundress, cannot help him; there is no place for him in the factories and enterprises. To get money, Jummy steals from workers on a building site and, while running away from them, looses Lilica. Jimmy Barcka`s long Odyssey starts. He meets a bar singer, becomes her lover and learns to sing. He sings very badly but it is enough for the small towns, fairs, remote military garrisons and minor industrial settlements. In a small town he meets a young girl, a dentist`s assistant, and decides to go with her to Belgrade to take a part in a youth competition. But instead of the expected acclamtion, Jimmy is booed by the audience. He leaves Belgrade with the dentist`s assistant, and while travelling on boat, once again meets Lilica, who lives by simulating pregnancies and pick-pocketing... Jimmy and Lilica go to visit the manager where they used to work and try to blackmail him, claiming that he made Lilica pregnant. At first the manager believes them, but when he finds out that Lilica was lying, he starts fight with Jimmy, and in the end kills him.
