"THE LAST OASIS" is a full-length film using a documentary-artistic guise to show one of the rare spots of untouched nature located between the Danube and Drava Rivers in Yugoslavia.
Flocks of birds returning from the far-off south flym over men-made urban regions and unerringly, without a compass or geographical map, gather outside the range of civilizations. There are more than three hundred kinds of them in our oasis. There are other types of game here, too...
In three full years of hidden camera work, since man is unwanted here, we recorded the births, fights, love and death of our oasis' inhabitants.
This strange world of the wilderness where the laws of nature are strikingly similar to human norms of behavior, renews itself and lives in spite of continuous destruction.
The film unfolds in short inserts and stories about this untouched animal kingdom.
The sights here are so impressive that we wish to help the inhabitants of this oasis, to not destroy their last stronghold. Because if they should disappear, the danger exists that man will remain alone.
