General Zivojin Misic is considered to be the greatest soldier in the Serbian history. The wings of victory surrounding his legendary name made his him known outside the frontiers of his country.
General Misic was born in Struganik on the 20th of July 1855. In 1876, while still a student, inmate, with the rank of sergeant, he fought in the war against Turks. He progresses rapidly and with merits in his military career, thanks to his very high professional and general education and training. Even at the end of the nineteen century , he was considered to be one of the most able and most educated Serbian general staff officer. He spoke German, French and Russian, and latter, in spite of all his duties and obligations, he learnt English and Italian. General Misic was also a very fruitful military author and translator.
For his merits in stopping the Bulgarian offensive, and for the numerous battles before, General Misic even received the highest British war distinction - the Order of Saint Michael and Saint George (first degree).
