Rajko Mitic is the greatest football legend of the Red Star team and one of the all-time great in Yugoslav football. His indisputable talent had to be honed and brought to perfect performance for the sports scene. Everything indicated a man with exceptional, natural talent and a stable, balanced personality that was highly promising.From both his and Red Star's first match in 1945 to 1958, Rajko Mitic played in 572 official matches and made 262 goals. He was captain and true leader of the Red Star team for full thirteen years.Rajko Mitic became the symbol of Red Star and the symbol of what a captain should be: the first among the eleven men on the field, the one who leads but also gives order when necessary, the one who dictates sportsmanship, the one who becomes the standard of total work of a team and a club.
