Just several days after August and Louis Lumiere's photographs were brought to life in the GRAND CAFÉ in Paris on December 25 1895, Belgrade was abuzz with this news. It was received with curiosity excitement as well as understanding.
Andre Ker, a photographer from Lyon, and his associates organized the first projection of the Lumieres' motion picture in Belgrade on June 6 1896.The large hall of the Golden Cross restaurant was not chosen by accident. For years it had been the meeting place of people with liberal views, painters, poets, travellers from far-off countries and exhibits with performance that heralded a new era and new century.
Soon film projectors appeared in the Belgrade hotel Slavia, Paris, Takovo and Casino.
