"Art expresses emotion, and emotion is a language that everyone understands," wrote the English writer Somerset Maugham long ago. "Every picture expresses the soul, the emotional and human essence of the artist himself," adds Sava Stojkov from Sombor, a self-taught painter with exceptional expressiveness and originality. For more than 60 years he has used brush and paint to paint his souvenirs of a world that was forgotten and vanished long ago. This is the world of his childhood, a rather romantic and highly lyrical apotheosis of the plain, the vision of vanishing landscapes and people seeped in melancholy, nostalgia and wistfulness.
